Workers are being encouraged to get on their bikes for the Surrey Cycle Challenge.

The Surrey County Council competition aims to get employees to cycle to work and log their journeys online between June 12 and 25.

The workplace with the highest proportion of staff logging their bike rides will take the title and all participants will be in with a chance of winning a bike and vouchers.

Last year more than 1,180 cyclists from 86 workplaces clocked up more than 131,000 miles of cycling.

Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Kay Hammond, said: “The challenge is a chance for residents to enjoy Surrey’s sights, whilst keeping fit and doing their bit for the environment.

“The county is set to be the cycling capital of the UK when we host the 2012 Olympic road race and time trial, and this challenge is a chance for residents to become part of that legacy, and perhaps even test run some of the Olympic routes.”
