Just weeks after assuring residents that they were confident of plentiful water supplies over the summer, customers of Sutton and East Surrey are being urged to use water with care.

The warnings come following the lowest recorded rainfall over the past three months since records began in 1910 and the driest spring for 101 years.

Mike Hegarty, Sutton and East Surrey Water’s operations director said: “We do not expect to have to introduce any restrictions on water use this summer but we do appeal to our customers to please use water with care.”

With a warm summer predicted, Mr Hegarty is urging customers to keep garden watering to a minimum and to not use a sprinkler which can use as much water in an hour as a family of four uses in a day.
