People dealing with mental health issues are set to become talking books at a human library project on June 15.

The project will take place between 2pm and 5pm on June 15 on level one of the main Croydon library in Katharine Street.

The free event gives people the chance to find out more about the reality behind mental health and will offer tips and pointers towards improved all-round wellbeing.

It is supported by the national ‘Time to Change’ campaign team and run by Mind in Croydon and ‘Hear Us’ – a group of local people who have each had their own personal mental health problems to overcome.

Along with the chance to talk to those who have experienced problems or people who work in the support sector there will also be free introductory yoga classes at the healthy living hub on the ground floor.

Councillor Sara Bashford, cabinet member for customer services, culture and sport, said: “One in four people will have problems with their mental health at some time in their lives.

“If you feel that you may be at risk – or maybe you are studying the subject or are caring for someone – come down to the Living Library and take out a ‘book’.

“It’s a great way to help raise awareness and helps reduce the stigma associated with mental health.”
