This weekend sees not one but two big music events coming to Clapham Common to kick off the start of the summer festival season.

After a year off, Get Loaded in the Park returns to the common along with the debut of the Southern Sounds festival.

But these will only be the beginning, with another four high profile music festivals happening between now and September.

At Southern Sounds on the Saturday, the common will be awash with revellers looking to see a headlining performance from one of Australia's finest rock exports, INXS, along with some of electronica's top DJ's.

Get Loaded, which takes place on the Sunday, will feature some indie music's big boys and, since it began in 2004, has been host to acts such as The Happy Mondays, Dizzee Rascal, Lily Allen and Iggy and the Stooges.

After taking a breaking in 2010, bands taking to the stage this year include The Cribs, British Sea Power, The Noisettes and headline act, Razorlight, which will play their first show in England featuring the band's new line-up.

It's return has seen it move from the usual August bank holiday weekend slot to an earlier date in the festival season.

The common has been pounded already this year, with Camp Royale for April's Royal Wedding seeing royalists from all the country flock to south west London to see the historic occasion.

After this weekend, it will host The Big Feastival and Summer Sundae in July, the South West Four dance festival weekender on August bank holiday weekend and the Sainsbury's Super Saturday closing the season in September.

But Clapham residents group, The Friends of Clapham Common, has launched a petition objecting to what it sees as the over-commercialisation of the common and is concerned over what impact endless events could have on the ground of the common.

It has so far got about 2,000 signatures and members of the group are out petitioning on the common at weekends along with one petition being placed in the La Baita cafe on the common.
