A schoolboy is celebrating being named the overall winner of last month’s Croydon Music Festival.
Oliver Cavadino scooped the Win Maber Memorial Award, for being the most promising flautist under twelve years old.
He was awarded the silver plate by the Mayor of Croydon at a ceremony held at Whitgift School, on May 15.
The eight-year-old who lives in Wallington, and attends All Saints Primary School, Carshalton, has only been playing the flute for 18 months.
He won multiple medals at last November’s Sutton Music Festival, and is currently working towards his Grade 4 exam.
He said: “I really enjoy playing the flute and couldn’t believe that I won the prize at the Croydon Music Festival.”
Oliver regularly plays with the Young Musicians Training, just one of the music groups on offer for young people in Sutton. He will also be taking part in the 78th Sutton Music Festival in November.
