Residents are being offered the chance to own a share of a new community farm.
Residents are being offered a share in 35 acres of land on Croydon Lane in Woodmansterne, near Banstead, which would then be transformed into London Community Farm.
The land includes an existing veg farm and nursery, woodland, farm shop, bungalow, glasshouses and polytunnels.
The site costs £1.15m and environment charity Bioregional based in Beddington, are appealing for people to come forward and pledge £1,500 for their share.
Community shares allow local groups to buy assets together and are well established in rural areas. They have been used to purchase wind turbines, pubs and post offices.
Shareholders would benefit from discounted produce and would be invited to attend the Annual General Meeting. They would also be able to get involved in activity days.
If a shareholder wanted to sell their share, they could do so for the original price.
In the last few days more than £350,000 has been raised, but time is of the essence and an offer for the land must be submitted by May, 27.
Project manager Anna Francis, said: “At this stage we only need to know if you are willing to pledge, please email me with your name and the amount you will pledge.
“If we get enough people we will issue a community share offer, if not, we won’t go ahead. So what have we got to lose?”
