Ambulance, police and fire services were called to help an elderly man who had crashed into a lamp post in Ewell this morning.
The elderly gentleman, who was driving a Fiat Punto, had to be taken to hospital after he smashed into the post at the junction of Kingston Road and Ruxley Lane at about 6am.
His injuries are not believed to be serious at this time.
A spokesman from the white watch at Epsom fire station said they were called to the incident this morning and had to help the man out of his car which was very badly damaged.
He said: "We had to make sure the vehicle was stable and helped the man out of the car. He was treated by the ambulance service.
"The car had taken out a lamp post, which was lying in the middle of the road, and there was a lot of damage. Electric cables and fuel mixed with oil were creating a big fire hazard and there was glass everywhere.
"We had a bit of a tidy up operation, making the area safe and cleaning up the mess."
It is unknown how the accident happened.
