The 4th annual PRO-ACTIVE London Awards for Community Sport and Physical Activity took place last Thursday night at City Hall. Over 150 special guests were invited to the award ceremony that saw the heroes of community sport honoured for their tireless work providing sporting opportunities for everyone. Whether it is a volunteer turning up week in week out to provide coaching opportunities for young people at their local sports club; a coach who provides opportunities in the local community or a sports club or organisation as a whole, the awards recognised and rewarded people's commitment to sport and physical activity during the last year. These awards are the only awards that celebrate community sport on a Crystal Palace Diving Club were awarded the School Partner of the Year award for their continued commitment to introducing Diving to School children in the South London area. Over the past 12 months the club has worked tirelessly to reignite diving in the Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. Their plan was simple, to enable every school in the borough to have the opportunity to participate. To date they have worked with 58 schools and 620 children. This has allowed the club to both develop the children individual and also ensure that they receive the opportunity to represent their school in competition in an “alternative” sport that would not immediately be connected with school sports. The club aims to give all children the chance to experience diving as a sport and also develop potential stars of the future. Justin Webb, Partnership Manager for PRO-ACTIVE South London said “Crystal Palace Diving Club is very deserving of this award. The have developed a fantastic relationship with schools in Croydon and are committed to giving all young people the chance to try diving.”

Richard Sumray, Chair of the London 2012 forum compered the evening which was also attended by the Mayors Commissioner for Sport, MP Kate Hoey, Mike Diaper - the Executive Director of Youth and Communities for Sport England.
