A refuse lorry caught fire on Wednesday afternoon in Chessington.
The vehicle burst into flames on Hook Road, near the former White Hart pub, currently being redeveloped as a home for adults with learning disabilities.
Firefighters from Esher fire station were called to the blaze at 12.14pm and had put the fire out by 12.43pm.
An eyewitness who spotted the smoke said the lorry was a recycling vehicle for collecting cardboard.
No cause for the fire has yet been given.
