Banstead High Street came alive at the weekend as the annual Mayday parade filled the streets.

Floats, circus performers and the elected May Queen were led by the Redhill Corps Drums and Band down Banstead High Street to the Church Green where visitors could enjoy fairground rides, crafts and food stall.

Rowen Martin, lance corporal and euphonium player with the Redhill Corps Band said: “It’s quite a big date in the calendar for Banstead.

Quite a lot of people turned up and it’s a very well supported event.

It’s got a really good atmosphere.

It just gets everyone involved and I think it’s a case of people showing what they can do.

It’s nice to see people come out and support each other.”

Other groups showcasing their talents included the Carshalton Cheerleaders, Blue Starz cheerleader and Banstead Junior School.

Jean Eve, head coach of the Carshalton Cheerleaders said: “We have been lucky with the weather on both occasions, and have felt very welcomed by the community.

Our youngest cheerleaders always ensure we bring a large support group with us, and events such as this provide a superb day for performing for parents and friends. ”
