A driver had a lucky escape when his car flipped on to its roof after a crash with another motorist.

The Jeep driver was taken to Kingston hospital with minor injuries after the smash with a silver Nissan Primera at 9pm on Tuesday evening.

The driver of the Nissan was left unharmed after the crash at the set of traffic lights next to Nat West on Esher High Street.

The road was closed until about 11.30pm, while emergency services cleared it of debris and recovered the vehicles.

One witness said: "The Jeep was on its top and it must have been brand new, because of the registration.

"They were trying to winch it up on to the back of a low loader, but they couldn't lift it up on to there, so the crane was just dragging the car around on its roof.

"There were loads of scratches on the road where the car was being dragged along the floor.

"The front of the other car looked like it had been chopped off."
