A hung vote means that backroom deals will once again decide who controls Mole Valley District Council.

The Lib Dems ended up with 18 seats and the Tories 17 - the same number that they had before - which leaves no party with an overall majority.

Now deals between the Lib Dems, Conservatives and Ashtead Independents will determine who makes up the coalition.

The Conservative party held Reigate and Banstead securing 12 of the 16 seats up for election despite suffering a shock defeat in Redhill.

Green Party candidate Sarah Finch took the seat ousting former Tory incumbent Michael Blacker.

The only other change saw independent candidate Gemma Harper-Adamson take Preston ward from Labour.
