Motorists are being reminded to make sure their cars are locked when left unattended following three thefts from unsecure vehicles in Walton.

One of the incidents took place between 3pm on Sunday, May 1 and noon on Tuesday, May 3, when a sat nav was stolen from the inside of an unlocked black Honda Civic parked in Braycourt Avenue.

Two other unlocked vehicles, a black Volkswagen Passat and a black Volkswagen Polo, parked in King George Avenue, were also targeted by theives overnight on Monday, May 2.

A sat nav, two Philips TVs and DVD player were stolen from the Passat, while a pair of sunglasses were stolen from the Polo.

PC Mark Howells, crime prevention officer for Elmbridge, said: "People can help themselves and reduce car crime by always locking the doors, windows, boot and sunroof each time they leave the vehicle.

“Car security devices should be used and items such as satellite navigation systems, including the cradle, should be taken out. Simple precautions can help residents avoid becoming a victim of crime themselves.”

Witnesses should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
