Not everyone is enthralled by the prospect of the pageantry and pomp of the wedding day.

Republican John Hayball, who leads Kingston’s Independent Socialist Labour Party, said he would not be sending the couple a wedding card or watching the glorious day on TV.

He said: “It is not a question of whether they are nice or not. They are the ruling class. I can’t imagine there will be any street parties around Chessington.”

But he conceded: "My family believes in happy marriages and I hope they will be happy."

Nurses, midwives and other hospital staff, already facing the prospect of job losses, will be working without any extra pay while everybody else enjoys the day off.

Rehana Azam GMB National Officer said staff were “disgusted” at being asked to “work on the cheap” although the NHS said they would be offered a day off on another day.

Meanwhile eight out of 10 Brits won’t be buying commemorative items from the Middleton’s website or any other source, according to one online survey, which perhaps obscures the more important truth that two in 10 WILL arm themselves with plates, mugs and other bric-a-brac.
