A couple from Carshalton have made the official guest list for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Seyi Obakin of Pine Walk, Carshalton, and his wife have been invited to the royal wedding at Westminster Abbey tomorrow.

Mr Obakin is the CEO of homeless charity Centrepoint. Prince William has been closely involved with the charity from a young age, after his mother, Princess Diana, became patron in 1992.

Prince William chose to become patron of the charity in 2005 and in 2009, he further deepened his understanding of youth homelessness by sleeping rough with Mr Obakin in temperatures of minus four degrees.

Mr Obakin said: “We wish Prince William and Catherine a happy wedding day and thank him for his ongoing commitment to our cause.”

Sutton will play host to nearly 40 street parties on Friday in celebration of the royal wedding.

Patriotic residents have applied to close 37 of the borough’s roads, to celebrate the marriage.

Sutton is the eighth on the list of London boroughs holding street parties, and to help people enjoy the occasion, Sutton Council is offering free on-street parking on April 29.

It will be free to park in both permit and pay and display bays on the day, which will help residents popping to the shops to pick up party supplies, although multi-storey car parks are not included in the offer.
