Residents wishing to get swept up in Royal Wedding fever still have enough time to arrange their own street party, Wandsworth Council has revealed.

Those with last minute plans to get the bunting out and make a day of it have until April 18 (Monday) to apply and join the 61 street parties already approved to go ahead on the Royal Wedding weekend.

There is no charge for residents who want to close their roads to traffic and all the other arrangements can be submitted online via an internet questionnaire.

The council’s environment and culture spokesman Councillor Sarah McDermott said: “We're delighted that so many people in Wandsworth will be celebrating this special royal occasion by enjoying a street party with their neighbours.

"The town hall has got rid of all the red tape and bureaucracy that used to make it difficult for organisers and as a result we have seen huge levels of interest from people keen on bringing their neighbours together to mark this historic day.”
