I very much enjoy your heritage pages and I would like to respond to your invitation for reminiscences of the George Payne's Factory.
There was an excellent sports ground at the George Payne's factory.
I played football there against Payne's at the start of the 1970s.
In April 1973 on Easter Monday, a special match was held in aid of Shelter, the charity for the homeless.
The game was played between Monty Python's Flying Football Circus and Grimms. Admission was 50p.
I believe all the Pythons were there and there was music from the bands, Brinsley Schwartz and Capability Brown.
I still have the flyer advertising the event.
Unfortunately, my outstanding memory of the day is getting totally drenched as it poured with rain for the whole afternoon.
