London’s oldest established Morris dancing club has elected a new leader who has pledged to bring in a new generation of handkerchief-wielding performers.

Greensleeves Morris Men, based in Haydons Road, Wimbledon, elected Chris Benson as its new leader last in November, who presided over their annual Boxing Day performance opposite the Rose and Crown pub in Wimbledon Village.

Mr Benson said: “It is a great privilege to lead Greensleeves Morris Men as an established part of the Wimbledon scene.

“We have a bright future, our youngest member is 16-years-old, and we would like to build on our success and bring in more younger members in future.”

The group, founded in 1926, meet for practice sessions every Friday, from 8pm to 10pm, at South Wimbledon Community Centre in Haydons Road.
