A former bingo hall could be turned into a 24-hour drinking venue with boxing and wrestling matches.
Information about the plans for the former Gala Bingo Hall in Richmond Road, Kingston, was posted on the building today.
The notice, which refers to the building as the Kingston Arena, also seeks permission to hold dancing, indoor sporting events, performance of plays and boxing or wrestling 24 hours a day.
The applicant is listed as Malcolm Farquharson.
Concerned residents collected more than 800 signatures against a new nightclub when rumours about grade II listed building's future first circulated last spring.
Bernadette Valleley of the Richmond Road Residents' Association said: “We are angry they would consider a 24 hour alcohol licence in a residential area.
“It's completely upsetting they have ignored our requests for a meeting, which we have asked for in writing, and we have yet to see credible plans for what this means.
“We love this area. We will fight this tooth and nail.”
