Officers were forced to close down a club in the centre of Croydon after becoming concerned that the party was about to descend into chaos.

Bar Se7en in Croydon's North End was shut down at the request of police because they feared for the safety of revellers.

Officers marched in at 2am and advised managers to close the club to prevent possible problems.

However, a group of party-goers, annoyed at the police for interrupting their evening, shouted and hurled glasses at police officers just outside the club.

Police soon dispersed the revellers and there were no arrests as a result of the scuffles.

Inspector Simon Ellingham said officers feared the party would get out of control if it was allowed to continue.

He said: “We were not happy with the way things were going inside the club and so closed it down.”

The Croydon Guardian was unable to contact Bar Se7en for comment at the time of going to print.
