An investigation has been launched into why a council-owned sports pavilion went up in flames last night.
Firefighters from Mitcham and Wimbledon were called to the blaze at the sports pavilion in Farm Road, Morden, at 9pm on Monday evening.
A room within the single-storey pavilion, which is owned but unoccupied by Merton Council, was completely gutted by fire, with the rest of the building severely damaged by smoke.
A fire investigation unit was called to the scene and the cause of the fire is currently being determined.
