A Government watchdog has given Epsom and St Helier hospital trust an improved rating for its performance over the last financial year.

In an annual evaluation carried out by the Audit Commission, which monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of public services, the trust improved its score in four of the five key areas for the financial year 2009-10.

It also improved its overall score from 'adequate’ in 2008-09 to ‘performing well’, the second highest level of performance.

The trust was found to be performing well in financial reporting, financial management, internal control and value for money.

It was found to be performing strongly in financial standing.
