Historic town centre buildings could be better protected by the proposed creation of a new conservation area.
Residents are being asked to support the plans tabled by Sutton Council, which would preserve the Victorian architecture of the flats, offices and shops between Sutton station and Trinity Square.
The top end of the High Street and some streets near the station are seen by historians as one of the most impressive parts of the town centre.
Placing them in a conservation area would preserve their history legacy by ensuring that any future changes to the properties and shopfronts are in keeping with the character of the area.
Councillor Jayne McCoy the council’s spokesperson on redevelopment, said: "I ask everyone to let us know their views, get involved in the consultation and help us to preserve Sutton’s historic High Street for future generations.”
The consultation will run from January 5 to February 16.
