A store in Epsom became one of the first of its kind to be banned from selling alcohol for 48 hours.
Using new powers, Surrey’s trading standards team served Budgens in East Horsley with a 48-hour alcohol closure notice following under-age alcohol sales by staff at the store.
Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Kay Hammond, said: "Our trading standards team and Surrey Police have conducted more than 150 test purchases on licenses premises since April.
"With teenage binge drinking more and more prevalent this sort of activity is vital to keep Surrey’s young people safe."
The notice was served after staff were found to have sold alcohol to young people under 18 twice in a three-month period during test purchase operations carried out in June and August this year.
It was the first time a 48-hour ban has been served on a licensed premise in Surrey.
