A hairdresser will receive celebrity support in her bid to set a new world record for the longest hairdressing marathon.

Publicist Max Clifford is due to drop in to Andreas salon in Raeburn Avenue, Tolworth, today to back Mary-Ann Sorci's attempt to cut hair for 48 hours.

The event, which got underway at 9am today, will raise funds for Positive Action for MS and the Chase Hospice in Guildford.

Customers will pay the normal fee, but all the money will go to the charity.

The mother of four is also collecting donations.

Mrs Sorci said: “I read about someone who had set the record at 30 hours and I thought I can beat that, and I thought I will do it for charity.

“I will just keep working. I have got coffee and a supply of food.”

The record attempt will continue until 9am on Saturday, November 20 at 3 The Crossways, Raeburn Avenue.
