Knife wielding burglars stole cash and jewellery from two terrified women in a daylight raid on a Wimbledon house.

Two balaclava wearing thieves bundled one victim through her own front door when she returned to her home in Quicks Road on Tuesday morning.

One of the burglars then held the 35-year-old woman and her 64-year-old mother-in-law at knifepoint while his accomplice searched the house.

The burglars are two black men, about 6ft, who wore high-visibility jackets during the raid. The crime took place at 9am, and after ten minutes the thieves ran off towards Wycliffe Roade and got into a black Range Rover.

Witnesses said the car’s registration plate began with the sequence FF04 or FN04.

Detective Constable Rob Butters of Wimbledon CID said: “Merton is one of the safest Boroughs in London and we won’t tolerate this kind of crime against our residents. We’re following up all possible leads to identify and arrest these offenders as soon as possible, and look after this family.”

Anyone with information about the crime should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Wimbledon CID on 0300 123 1212.
