A Carshalton schoolboy was filmed by the BBC for a special Children in Need programme.

Andrew Searle, 16, has been working on behalf of the Jigsaw4U charity, which helps children with family loss and trauma, and the BBC interview focused on his work for their programme.

The Christ’s Hospital School student, whose work helped Sri Lanka families in the aftermath of the 2005 Tsunami, received this year’s Jigsaw4U ‘Young Person of the Year’ award.

He also took part in the production of a resource video on childhood bereavement and has been involved in Jigsaw4U’s most recent DVD on bereavement.

The piece aired on November 17 on BBC South East.

The teenager lost his father at an early age and this motivated him to join his first Jigsaw4U bereavement group in September 2000.

He has written a story book about ‘loss’ and hopes to have it published in due course.
