The man accused of murdering a pubgoer during a New Year's Eve party shooting had high amounts of gunshot residue in his car, the Old Bailey heard this afternoon.

Particles of the residue, which covers clothes and surfaces within three metres of a gun being fired, were found across the driver's area of Saturday Lobsang Hassan's BMW X5 by police investigators, the jury heard.

Mr Hassan, 30, from Sydenham, is charged with murdering Darren Deslandes and attempting to murder his brother Junior and father Wintworth during the party at the Newton Arms pub, Thornton Heath on January 1 this year.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Edward Brown QC, prosecuting, told the court a high level of gunshot residue was found on the steering wheel, handbrake and gear stick of the car, and a single particle was found on the driver's door handle.

He said the amount of residue could only have been left by someone covered in the particles who had recently fired a gun.

The court heard the type of particles in the BMW were the same as found near spent cartridges in the pub.

Mr Hassan denies all four charges against him.

The trial continues.
