A student joined teachers and employers at the Houses of Parliament to promote vocational qualifications.

Croydon Champions nominee Alexandros Pamnani did a BTEC National Diploma in Vehicle Technology and Mechanical Engineering at Croydon College.

The 20-year-old from Croydon achieved two triple distinctions and has been given a place at Loughborough University to study engineering.

He spoke to MPs, Lords and educational organisations about the benefit of the qualification.

He said: “When I left school at 16, I never thought I would be in the position I am now. Studying a BTEC has been key to my progression onto a top quality higher education degree programme and has been so influential in my life by opening up doors and making me think anything is possible if you work hard enough. BTECs are now widely accepted by top universities.

“I am thrilled to be part of a group of successful former BTEC students and to be sharing my story with MPs. It’s so exciting to spread the word and raise the profile of a qualification that is really helping me achieve my dreams.

“I am really looking forward to starting my Engineering undergraduate course at Loughborough University later this month and would definitely recommend BTEC as a route to any student looking to achieve their career goals.”
