Two 15-year-olds who stabbed to death a man they alleged was a paedophile have been jailed today.

The two teenagers, a girl from Streatham and a boy from Clapham who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been previously convicted for the death of 45-year-old Robert Daley, in his flat in Brixton, on April 23.

The boy was sentenced to nine years for murder, the girl six years for manslaughter.

The court previously heard how another teenager known to the 15-year-old defendant had been sexually abused by Mr Daley and had complained to police, who started investigating the case.

But the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case on April 13 and on the day Mr Daley was killed, he called the teenager to "gloat about the case being dropped".

The convicted 15-year-old girl said in court she had also been touched by Mr Daley.

Judge Morris QC said he would accept, for sentencing purposes, that the sexual assault on one of the girls did happen.

The teenager who had been contacted by Mr Daley then called the 15-year-old boy and arranged for the two defendants to meet and go to Mr Daley's flat.

The court heard the pair, both 14 at the time, armed themselves with a kitchen knife on the way to Mr Daley's flat and attacked him in the kitchen, stabbing him six times, before running away and leaving him to die from his injuries.

When sentencing, Judge Morris said the fact Mr Daley had called the other girl and provoked her and the fact the 15-year-old saw how upset she was served as mitigating circumstances to his sentencing.

He said to both teenagers: "You disposed of the knife, your blood-stained clothing and your telephone's SIM card. And you disposed of your clothing and your telephone too.

"In doing so you showed chilling criminal sophistication for 14-year-olds.

"Those items were never recovered."

Addressing the boy, he added: "You took the knife to the flat intending to use it as a weapon against Robert Daley.

"I'm prepared to sentence on the grounds that you only had the intention to cause grievous bodily harm or a really serious injury to him."

He said to the 15-year-old girl: "You had a complete lack of adult and family support and guidance and I'm not satisfied that you satisfy the criteria of dangerousness. The sentence I feel appropriate for your actions is one of six years in custody."
