Special Olympics Surrey athletes showcased their talents in a performance at Kingston's Rose Theatre last week.

The show - the stars and beyond - featured fashion, dance and music and was attended by 300 people on Wednesday, November 10, in aid of Special Olympics Surrey.

It is the country's largest provider of sports training and competition for children and adults with learning disabilities, regardless of their abilities.

The performance featured Special Olympics Surrey athletes modelling outfits designed by Kingston College national fashion diploma students.

Sue Frett, chairman of Special Olympics Surrey, said: "It was an absolutely brilliant night. Everyone had a ball, there was no stage fright, the gospel choir was magnificent and all the performers did so well."

John Lewis supported the night and kindly donated all the show costs, as part of John Lewis Kingston's 20th anniversary celebrations.

Lene Wood, the store's liaison coordinator, said: "We get a lot of professional fashion shows and performances through John Lewis, but this was something else. It was such an emotional night, such a tear jerker and a night we won't forget."

"It has taken four months for one girl to learn to walk in her performance heels. These little simple things are a massive achievement. There will be no stopping them now."

Celebrity guests included Nick Altman, nasty Nick from Eastenders, who did the raffle, which raised £900.
