Greg Andrews reveals the text banter between Leatherhead and the Metropolitan Police has been hotting up as the race for the Ryman Division One South title gathers pace.

The Tanners moved nine points clear of the Blues with Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing of Horsham YMCA, albeit having played four games more than their rivals. And Leatherhead striker Andrews admits the comedy insults have been flying thick and fast.

He said: “One of my best mates is the Met’s goalie Mo Maan and we have been texting each other a lot lately.

“I was ribbing him a bit about the draws they had recently, saying the pressure is getting to them.

“He said it was just a blip, but I kept on at him about it.

“It is just a bit of fun really and it is good to see the both of us doing so well.”

The forward took his season-tally to an impressive 17 with a hat-trick in the Horsham YMCA game as Leatherhead racked up another six to go with the 11 they scored in the corresponding away fixture.

And Andrews is happy to enjoy the ride.

He added: “Everything I touch seems to be going in at the moment.

“It has been a great run and I am loving it.

“I think there has only been two or three games I have not scored in and that is incredible.”

Jack McLeod, Kev Terry and Mark Simmons added other goals.

And the frontman reckons the distribution of goals is the prime reason for their success so far this campaign.

Andrews added: “Last year it was a case of keep Tommy Hutchings in check and you stopped Leatherhead, but that is not the case this year.

“It is not just the strikers either.

“We are getting goals from all over the place and it makes it very difficult to stop us.”

Leatherhead’s next three matches: Nov 20 Faversham Town (a), 23 Corinthian Casuals (h), 27 Godalming Town (a)
