A public debate about the state of Surrey County Council’s finances will take place this week.

The event is part of the Have Your Say campaign, to make it easier for residents to give their views, which was launched by the authority’s public sector organisations.

Surrey County Council leader Dr Andrew Povey, Surrey Police Chief Constable Mark Rowley and NHS Surrey chairman David Clayton-Smith will be among those to feature at this month’s event.

Dr Povey said: “Before the government’s spending review the council knew it had to make savings over the next four years. As a result of the announcement, the council will need to save £40 to £80m more over the four years.

“It is therefore essential that our residents have their say on what changes take place. Because so many public services are interdependent it is sensible that we work together. This will ensure we avoid duplicating work unnecessarily and make sure any changes have as little adverse impact on residents and frontline services as possible.”

The debate, to be hosted by BBC Surrey broadcaster Peter Stewart, takes place at Salesian School, Chertsey, on 18 November between 7pm and 9pm. To book a free place and submit a question for debate, email enquiries@surreyhaveyoursay.info or call 03456 009 009.
