Big Brother contestant Michelle Bass will be at the launch of an appeal to help domestic violence victims at Christmas.

The Giving Tree Appeal supports women and children at local refuges who were forced to leave their homes because of domestic violence.

It aims to provide children with a present to open on Christmas day.

Home appliance store Robert Dyas will display a list of presents in its shop in Sutton's St Nicholas Shopping Centre, which the children have said they would like to receive.

Local shoppers can buy the presents, which will then be wrapped at the store and sent to the children.

The appeal will be launched at 11.30am on Saturday (Nov 20) outside the shop.

Miss Bass said: “I was so pleased to be asked to launch the appeal again at the St Nicholas Centre, these women and children have been through so much so it’s great to be able to make their Christmas a little brighter.”

Recent statistics published by Sutton council showed one in six children in Sutton live in homes where there is domestic violence.
