A gunman who opened fire on a 4x4 driver who had just run over and killed his best friend outside a world-famous nightclub has been jailed for life.

Dwayne McPherson, 28, tried to shoot dead Ranjit Nankani, 30, moments after he mounted the pavement and fatally ploughed in to Streatham dad Gary Johnson outside the Ministry of Sound nightclub in Elephant and Castle.

Unemployed McPherson, of Sydenham, pulled-out a gun and fired four shots at Nankani, of Croydon, in an act of retaliation, hitting him once in the shoulder.

At the Old Bailey on Monday he was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 11 years, for attempted murder.

Nankani had run over Mr Johnson in a fit of rage after they had all been thrown out of the nightclub - after a fight inside the club after Nankani stepped on Mr Johnson's foot on the dancefloor.

After the fatal collision, Nankani ploughed in to a line of parked cars where McPherson, having just seen his best friend partially decapitated, fired the shots in to the vehicle before running away.

He was found guilty on August 13 of attempted murder after a trial where, in a bizarre twist, he had to sit in the dock next to Nankani, his best friend's killer and the man he tried to murder.

He was also sentenced to a concurrent eight-year sentence for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Nankani was jailed on August 16 for life to serve a minimum of 18 years.
