A Hindu god was paraded round the block in Thornton Heath on Saturday as devotees celebrated the birthday of one of their most revered deities.

Swarms of colourfully dressed Hindus from the Shree Shakthy Ganapathy Temple carried a statue of Ganesh along Brigstock Road accompanied by horns and music.

The festivities surrounding the elephant-headed god’s birthday are held to celebrate wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
