A major project to improve Clapham Junction’s road network is about to begin.

Early next month, Wandsworth Council will begin work on a scheme which aims to cut traffic jams, reduce accidents by up to a third and improve the environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

The first phase involves changes to the Lavender Hill/Falcon Lane junction, which will divert traffic away from the main crossroads at the bottom of St John’s Hill. The town centre will also be smartened up with new paving, lampposts and other street fixtures.

The work, backed by Transport for London and the Clapham Junction Town Centre Partnership is expected to last until spring next year. The authority hopes to keep disruption to a minimum throughout the project and no work will take place over Christmas and New Year.
