A man murdered in West Norwood on Saturday has been named by friends as Ricardo Cunha.

The 23-year-old, a talented footballer, was shot at the window of his family home in Pondfield House, Elder Road, at about 11.20pm on Saturday night.

Police have said they believe it was a targeted attack. But detectives also said Ricardo had no criminal record and was not known to police.

One friend Rebecca, 18, said she believed he was targeted in a case of mistaken identity.

She told the Streatham Guardian: "We are all struggling as to why this has happened to Ricardo.

"He was not the type to get in to a fight, he was so humble. He would come home from work and be with his mother. He was not the type to get mixed up with the wrong type of people.

"All his close friends are asking, why did they take Ricardo's life?"

She said his mother and sister were devastated and had moved from the flat.

Police have launched a murder investigation and an incident room opened at Lewisham under DCI Damian Allain.

DCI Allain said: "This appears to be a targeted attack.

"I believe the shot or shots were fired from outside the flat in Pondfield House.

"I need to hear from anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that may assist the investigation."

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8721 4805. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
