To quote a rather overdone football cliché, this was certainly a game of two halves.
Warlingham surprised the table-topping home team with their spirited and dogged display in the first half, going in at the interval 5-5 with Winchester.
Warlingham's pack, with locks Angus Peacock and Paul Pantry prominent in the line outs, kept the normally rampant home pack on the back foot for long periods.
Winchester went ahead after a penalty which rebounded off an upright and fell back into their possession, leading to a try. Jason Bethell levelled the scores with try for the away team.
But for a missed penalty on the stroke of half time, Warlingham could have gone in at the interval ahead.
The second half was a completely different story. A change of tactics after half time saw Winchester kick for position far more.
It resulted in a series of tries which put the game beyond the reach of Warlingham.
