Could do better, was the verdict on Rockmount Primary School, after a visit by the School Inspectorate, Ofsted.
Both strengths and weaknesses were detailed in a report just released following the Ofsted visit to the Upper Norwood school in September.
On the plus side, the team found that pupils behaved well and their social, moral and spiritual development was good. And the introduction of the literacy hour had already raised standards.
But the report also said the school had "serious weaknesses". Standards in English and maths were below what was expected and teaching was unsatisfactory in one in six lessons.
Headteacher Yvonne Lamb said: "As well as recognising our strengths, the inspectors highlighted those areas which need to be improved.
"These have already been included in our plan for action over the coming months."
