Letters are being sent to 36,000 Surbiton and Tolworth residents, showing them these pictures of what a revamped Surbiton Hospital might look like.

The brochures from NHS Kingston will land on doorsteps from Monday and accompany an online consultation and exhibitions.

Everything had gone quiet before the election, prompting fears the development would be axed as part of the cost-cutting review of capital spending by the Treasury.

Project co-ordinator Clive Nattrass, who fronted the presentations on polysystems to residents last year, had left the project after his contract expired.

But a spokesman for NHS Kingston said: “Obviously it needs to go through the whole planning process and nothing is certain but we are going ahead.”

David Smith, chief executive at NHS Kingston, said: “We’re delighted to be taking forward this exciting project with Kingston Council, which will bring a new lease of life to the Surbiton Hospital site.

“The scheme is all about creating the best possible health and education services for people in the borough, so we’d urge residents to give their views in the consultation.”‬‪

Managers said the hospital was still on track for opening in 2012 despite some slippage in the process.

The rear of the site has being earmarked for a new primary school, now expected to be open in time for September 2012.
