A Tug of War competition featuring teams made up of the legendary Gurkhas is taking place in Sutton today.

The annual event, organised by G4S Gurkha Services (G4S), in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust in the grounds of Manor Park at 11.30am.

With around 20 G4S teams of six competing, competition is expected to be fierce.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust provide a variety of aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen after they have returned to their homeland of Nepal.

John Whitwam, of Gurkha Services, said: “It’s really fantastic to see so many of our employees getting involved. This will be an enjoyable way to get together and raise money for a worthy cause.”

“With Bhat (Gurkha curry) and refreshments laid on for competitors and onlookers alike, the event will hopefully prove to be very successful for what is now an annual event for us at G4S.”

Gurkhas are best known for their bravery and strength in the Indian Army's Gurkha regiments and the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas.
