What is England’s best World Cup song?

Opinion is normally split between Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions and New Order’s World in Motion but a Wallington rocker is hoping his new single will become the nation’s new favourite.

James Hannington, 45, has recorded a single with his band Joe Public United and the official England Supporters Band called Cabanga (Come on England).

The song has been backed by a host of celebrities and England players including John Terry, Joe Cole and even Austin Powers star Mike Myers.

Mr Hannington said: “The Sutton Guardian very kindly supported my band’s single release in December 2008 called One Last Dream.

“Sadly, the dream of a Top 40 hit didn’t quite happen despite a strong midweek chart placing of 27, we eventually finished outside the top 75. But our dream is still alive with the release of our World Cup Song.”

Cabanga, the Zulu word for imagine, was chosen after the band asked scientists to discover which word is the perfect chant to help England win the World Cup. Mr Hannington said: “We were inspired by the scientists’ findings and wrote a song to help England fans believe it will happen with the power of positive thinking.”

Sky Sports presenter Chris Kamara also recently lent his support by changing his name to Chris Cabanga following a Facebook campaign, which currently has 35,000 friends.

Mr Hannington and the band performed the song at Alexandra Palace for the live screening of England’s opening game on June 12.

He said: “The News of the World adopted the tune as its official World Cup song and the CD came out at HMV last Monday.”

The video was shot at 97 locations with the England Band and former Crackerjack star Bernie Clifton, famed for his 1980s ostrich sketch.
