Golfing grandmother Sheila Boniface cannot stop scoring hole-in-ones – a habit that is leaving her husband and teammate Tony distinctly out of pocket.
The 74-year-old from Coulsdon has just netted the fifth ace of her career at her Chipstead club, where she has been a member for 24 years.
But her amazing feat is a cause of suffering for Mr Boniface, who has to shell out on a round of drinks at the clubhouse every time she holes out.
She said: “My last one was in 2001 and I know it seems strange, but I always thought I could do another one. I hit fairly straight these days – straight and boring I like to say – because I’m getting old now. I didn’t even realise it had gone in at first. I thought it had gone into a bush.”
Mr Boniface, also 74, said: “It’s cost me a fortune in the past – it’s a very expensive pastime. You can get insurance against it but I’ve always decided not to – I always think ‘She’s not going to do it again’.
“I’ve told her if she does it again I’ll have to send her out to work.”
