St Helier Hospital has signed up to an eco-friendly inititaive to bring fresh, locally-sourced fruit and vegtables to patients, visitors and staff.

The Veg Van will visit the Re:treat restaurant at the hospital every Wednesday between 12pm and 3pm.

The electric-powered van will offer fresh, seasonal vegetables such as strawberries and asparagus.

Marilyn Knight manages the catering services for the hospital’s trust. She said “We’ve had a lot of positive feedback about the first visit from the Veg Van.

“Even the restaurant chefs have got on board by serving a Veg Van-inspired dish of the week.”

The van is part of the three year One Planet Food project by environmental charities BioRegional and EcoLocal. It aims to improve access to fresh local food, support local food producers and reduce pollution from food miles.
