Cries of “you cannot be serious” rang around SW19 as mad Mac lost it once again - this time in the championship’s queue on Monday morning.
But tournament organisers hadn’t misplaced John McEnroe’s tickets, instead he was entertaining fans with a repeat of his 1981 outbust - this week voted the tournament’s most memorable moment.
And according to the three-time champion, British hopeful Andy Murray could do with showing similar levels of passion or even petulance to increase his chances of victory.
He said: “Here's what he should do. Robinsons conducted a survey of the most memorable moments in history here at Wimbledon and guess who came top? Me, saying you cannot be serious.
"Not Roger Federer breaking the grand slam record, Pat Cash winning Wimbledon or Virginia Wade winning Wimbledon.
"So he has to go out on the court and say stuff like ‘you cannot be serious' to pump himself up. That's what pumped me up. That was early in the tournament and I won that year.”
