Surrey County Council (SCC) wants schemes and enterprises to submit bids for a share of £200,000 the local authority has pledged to help disadvantaged parts of the county.

Last year, SCC leader Councillor Andrew Povey promised the funding for schemes that try to improve people’s skills, tackle antisocial behaviour, raise educational standards, promote digital inclusion and help parents bring up children.

Coun Povey said: “Although Surrey is comparatively a very prosperous county we must still do everything possible to support those less fortunate than others. It is vital that we help communities to help themselves.

“I am inviting bids for projects that can make a real difference to people’s lives in these communities, whether they seek to help people get the skills to get back into work, tackle vandalism or provide activities that support children’s education.”

The 11 other councils within SCC, including Elmbridge Council, are now accepting bids on behalf of SCC.
