Police searching for a West Byfleet man who disappeared earlier this month have discovered a body in Ockham Common.

Officers were becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of diabetes sufferer Michael Hayward, 43, who went missing on Wednesday, June 8.

Mr Hayward, who is better known as Jack, left his house that morning, but phoned his partner at about 11am to tell her he was unwell.

His car was later found in the car park at Wisley Lane, close to Wisley Gardens, an area where he often walked his dogs.

Officers and volunteers spent the past fortnight searching land in the Wisley and Ockham Common areas.

Just before 4pm on Saturday, June 19, the body of a man, who has not been formally identified, was found in a secluded area of woodland close to Ockham.

A police spokesman said a postmortem examination would take place due course, but the death was not being treated as suspicious.
