A Kingston College student proved he was fighting fit when he won the Junior Amateur Boxing Association (Jaba) Championship.

New Malden resident Lerrone Richards, 17, who fights out of Repton Boxing Club, is currently ranked Britain’s number one junior boxer.

He defeated the then-number one fighter in the semi-finals, who was the previous year’s champion, to take the Jaba title.

Middleweight fighter Mr Richards said: “It was a massive achievement, it was a really competitive competition and I had to use all my boxing skill to come out on top. But with the backing of coaches and staff support at Kingston College, I was able to focus on my boxing and come out on top.”

He is one of the founding members of Kingston College’s KC Aces programme, that allows elite athletes to compete with full backing from the college, ensuring a balance between academic studies and training.
