Young gardeners are crossing their green fingers as they hope for success in a London-wide competition.

Sacred Heart Primary School in Raynes Park has entered London in Bloom’s annual best school garden constest. A team of top horticultural judges examined the school’s effort earlier this month - and the results are set to be announced before the end of the term.

The garden has produced courgettes, beans and strawberries - and pupils have even made their own jam with some of the fruit.

Parent Sasha McDonogh, who helped the children created the garden, said: “Our message is you can do this even if you’re in the middle of a concrete jungle.”
